Flower Thread was developed by The Danish Handcraft guild from a tablecloth
woven and embroidered by one of their early designers, Else Johnsen. Else wove the fabric for the tablecloth, then embroidered it with the same yarn dyed in
various soft colours. This weaving yarn became the basis of today's flower thread.

Gerda Bengtsson, a trained weaver, experienced dyer and
one of the Danish Handcraft Guild's most famous artists, used this thread for many of her designs, working with master dyer Einar Hansen of Copenhagen to develop the color palette she needed. Eventually the thread, which became so famous in Gerda's flower designs, became known as Danish Flower Thread.

Flora Flower Thread is a thin, fainted, 1-stranded 100% cotton thread with a beautiful, natural fall on the embroidery fabric. On finer qualities of fabric, Flora is used single-stranded - on more stout fabrics, 2 threads are used.

Flora can contain surplus color from dying the yarn. Therefore it is important to wash the embroideries this way to avoid smudging:

Wash the embroidery in the machine at 30 - 60° C (be aware how the fabric can be washed). Use soap without bleach. It is important that the embroidery is constantly moved, so any possible surplus color cannot "fasten". Do not soak.

After washing it gives a good result to iron the embroidery until it is dry. Iron from the back with a piece of white cotton fabric over the embroidery. If the embroidery is dry when starting ironing it gives the best result if the white cotton fabric is moistened.
